PIOs, environmental journalists and stakeholders invited to EU webinar on climate change

QUEZON CITY, Oct. 18 (PIA) --Climate change and environmental degradation are huge threats to many parts of the world,  including the Philippines which ranked ninth on World Risk Index 2019 among countries with highest risks.

Aiming thus to engage with journalists and foster greater awareness about the effects of climate change, the European Union Delegation to the Philippines partners with local government, non-government organizations, businesses and media for “State of Play: Green Recovery and Sustainable Reporting” a webinar set on October 22, via Zoom.

The webinar is anchored on EU’s Action Plan for Circular Economy and the European Green Deal, a growth strategy that aims to transform EU into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy.

“The EU recognizes that journalists play a critical role in creating awareness to help members of the public know how to act against climate change and governments to make informed decisions,” said Thomas Wiersing, ChargΓ© d'Affaires a.i. of the EU Delegation to the Philippines.

The media webinar will also arm journalists with a deeper understanding of climate change and boost local government units’ (LGUs) environmental initiatives in mitigating the effects of natural disasters.

Among the speakers are:

·       Tam Nguyen, head of Operations at GA Circular,  to discuss “State of Play: Green Recovery: Where are we headed during and after this pandemic?”;

·       Giovanni Serritella, Programme Manager for Environment and Climate Change of the EU Delegation in the Philippines to discuss “Prospects of EU-PH Cooperation via Copernicus Programme”

·       Katarina Grgas Brus, International Relations Officerfor Southeast Asia at the European Commission Directorate-General for Environment to present “Framework of the Green Deal Campaign and Circular Economy: Presentation from European Commission.

·       Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Manny Mogato and together Philippine Network of Environmental Journalists (PNEJ) president Imelda Abano will host a discussion on “Reporting Beyond Disasters and Climate Change.”

The virtual seminar is open to LGUs’ Public Information Officers, environmental journalists, journalism students, and environment stakeholders. Certificates of participation shall be issued. To register, email faye@mediasenseph.com.

How To Make A Country Worship You

Why are Filipinos known for their lack of reading comprehension?

Because according to most of them: "Well-mannered is better than well-educated" That's why most of the Filipinos never progress. It is because of the trash mindset.
