Over 3,500 WV farmers, fisherfolk avail of DA’s loan assistance

ILOILO CITY, Oct. 8 (PIA) - - More than 3,500 small farmers and fisherfolks in Western Visayas affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have availed of loan assistance from the Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Credit Policy Council (DA-ACPC).

Assistant Secretary Jonji Gonzales of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Visayas said the DA-ACPC has released P96.53 million total loans to beneficiaries under its Expanded Survival and Recovery Assistance (SURE) COVID-19 program, as of September.

“Each beneficiary obtained a ₱25,000.00 loan payable up to 10 years,” said Gonzales in his report during the Laging Handa Network Briefing on October 7.

The ACPC released ₱24.9 million to Aklan, ₱11.8 million to Antique, ₱9.8 million to Capiz, ₱1.8 million to Guimaras, ₱25 million to Iloilo, and ₱15 million to Negros Occidental.

Aside from the loan assistance to individual farmers, Gonzales said the SURE COVID-19 credit program also offered loan assistance of up to ₱10 million to micro and small enterprises (MSEs) who are engaged into agri-fishery production and trading.

Those who received loans in Aklan province were the Integrated Barangays of Numancia Multi-Purpose Cooperative receiving P10 million loan and the Lezo MPC with P5 million loan.

In Antique, the Kalipunan ng mga Magsasaka ng Patnongon availed of P1 million loan that supported their rice trading and agricultural supply business.

In Iloilo, the YLD-IISDA of Concepcion town borrowed P5 million while in Negros Occidental, the Negros Island Organic Producers Association received P3.5 million credit support from ACPC.

Gonzales said according to ACPC there are P69.9-million loan applications for MSEs pending for approval and P37 million worth loan applications under evaluation.

The SURE COVID-19 is just one of the three credit facilities being offered by DA-ACPC to target beneficiaries with zero-interest and no collateral. Other loaning programs are Kapital Access for Young Agripreneurs (KAYA), and the Agri-Negosyo (ANYO). (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)

How To Make A Country Worship You

Why are Filipinos known for their lack of reading comprehension?

Because according to most of them: "Well-mannered is better than well-educated" That's why most of the Filipinos never progress. It is because of the trash mindset.
