Never Again! Never Forget!

Why does it matter?  Can't we move on? There is a thin line between moving forward and forgetting. The occurrence of collective amnesia did not happen only by mistake or overnight. Correctly remembering what happened during Martial Law is important, especially amidst ongoing conversations that attempt to revise history. While others have made attempts through social media platforms to cement the Martial Law's place in our cultural memory, we have a clear social responsibility to be accountable for our actions and be conscious of its impact on others and in our communities. Truths are learned to be remembered and not to be forgotten. There is nothing wrong with forgiving and moving forward, but what makes things hard to digest is when accountability is neglected. In that case, chances are, Filipinos will find it hard to value, defend, and promote our freedom. To be reminded to #NeverForget does not necessarily mean holding a grudge until our very last breath. It will

DOST-4A hosts webinar on dengue, COVID-related health issues

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, Oct 18 (PIA) – Dengue and various mental health concerns are some of the health issues other than the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) that the government is addressing.
As part of the National Science and Technology Week celebration, the Department of Science and Technology - CALABARZON (DOST-4A) hosted a two-day webinar series entitled, ‘#BANGON: Bayanihan Tungo sa Pagbangon’, which aimed to address public health concerns brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) Hospital Infection Unit Head Dr. Regina P. Berba explained that the similarities between the two diseases made their diagnosis and treatment more challenging.
“Interestingly, in areas with high incidence of dengue fever cases, such as Brazil, the rate of spread of COVID-19 is significantly slower,” Berba said.
The physician also shared her hypothesis that persons who have contracted dengue in the past may have developed immunity to COVID-19 to a certain degree.
She also introduced ‘Biotek M’, an affordable yet effective dengue detection kit designed and developed by a team of Fiipino inventors led by Dr. Raul V. Destura, and funded by the DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.
Dengue virus carrier Aedes aegypti is known to thrive in stagnant water, which prompted inventor Lyle Herbosa to develop the larvicide, Kiti-KitiX.
According to Herbosa, Kiti-KitiX is effective for 11 months and is non-toxic to humans and animals, except for mosquitoes.
It has already passed the evaluation of the Bureau of Food and Drugs and availed by the DOST’s Technology and Application and Promotions Institute (DOST-TAPI) iTech Lending Program.
Meanwhile, psychiatrist and member of the Family Psychiatry & Psychology Associates,  Dr. Joffrey Sebastian Quiring, discussed how to overcome compassion and caution fatigue during the pandemic.
Dr. Quiring clarified that compassion and caution fatigue are not considered mental disorders, rather a phenomena similar to burnout. To overcome these, he recommended adopting the 7S’s: self-awareness, solution-based thinking, soothing your senses, social support, service to others, spirituality and finding meaning, and self-compassion.

Bakit ba naeenganyo sila? Paniwalang paniwala sila. Basahin ang maikling kasagutan tungkol dito. It makes them feel special and different. It gives them a feeling of being better than others, of having their eyes opened to a 'truth' that others don't see. That's why some call non-believers 'sheeple.' I think it's similar to the feeling we get whenever we learn an obscure yet interesting piece of trivia. The thought of "No one else knows it!" I also think conspiracies appeal to the way humans think, especially now. A desire to search for patterns. There has to be reason and purpose for anything. But this is not right! I still blame the lack of the fundamental research skills that needs to be taught in school. I believe you get to have a full subject on your 4th year, but investigative skills and fact checking should be honed at a young age.

Now, why so sudden bigla kayong nagreklamo? eh diba ginusto niyo 'yan, honestly dito samin nagsasabing nagsisisi sila sa naboto nila, for me hindi na kasalanan ng mga politiko na naloko nila kayo dahil there are so many evidences na. Pero all of you still chose to be fooled and deceived by them. But it's too late na eh nakaupo na sila sa pwesto na hindi nila deserve. Pero ito na lang... Let our response be, GINUSTO NIYO 'YAN!
