ILOILO CITY, Oct. 21 (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd)-Regional Office 6 is asking teachers and parents to continue supporting students in their studies using the different delivery methods.
In a radio interview on the government radio program Bayanihan sa Kauswagan over Aksyon Radyo Iloilo, DepEd-6 Education Support Division chief Dr. Amelita Pitalgo said teachers and parents should not be too hard on students as they continue learning amid a pandemic.
“Let them do it by themselves, let them assess what they have learned,” she said, asking parents to refrain from answering the modules, which is part of the learning delivery methods utilized by the department.
Pitalgo said parents must only monitor how their children finish their tasks.
The numerous competencies had been trimmed down to the “Most Essential Learning Competencies” so that students will be able to learn on their own, with guidance from their parents.
Classes started on October 5 under DepEd’s Learning Continuity Plan which it has worked on since April, said Pitalgo.
Without face-to-face classes due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), DepEd is using the online learning, modular, blended learning, and radio or tv-based instruction.
“Despite the pandemic, learning must continue, education must continue,” she said.
She added that DepEd is providing different interventions like psycho social services and virtual training, and incorporating sports or physical activities to learning methods. (LTP/CBA/PIA-6)
