Never Again! Never Forget!

Why does it matter?  Can't we move on? There is a thin line between moving forward and forgetting. The occurrence of collective amnesia did not happen only by mistake or overnight. Correctly remembering what happened during Martial Law is important, especially amidst ongoing conversations that attempt to revise history. While others have made attempts through social media platforms to cement the Martial Law's place in our cultural memory, we have a clear social responsibility to be accountable for our actions and be conscious of its impact on others and in our communities. Truths are learned to be remembered and not to be forgotten. There is nothing wrong with forgiving and moving forward, but what makes things hard to digest is when accountability is neglected. In that case, chances are, Filipinos will find it hard to value, defend, and promote our freedom. To be reminded to #NeverForget does not necessarily mean holding a grudge until our very last breath. It will

DOH establishes 'ONELINE' command center

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Sept. 6 (PIA) - - To provide a unified correct and appropriate information and responses on inquiries relative to COVID-19 and other health related issues and concerns, the Department of Health (DOH) region 2 has established a command call center.

Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay says the ONELINE Command Center will address referral system issues on COVID-19 cases and other health concerns. (by PIA)

Val Aaron Taguinin, point person, said the region's command call center is 'Offering Non-stop services and Empowered Linkages In Nation's health Emergencies and disasters (ONELINE).

He said the call center serves as the bridge between the stakeholders and the department which will function as the referral system for COVID-19 to be admitted in appropriate health facility for proper monitoring and case management.

"The health sector is now confronted with challenge of disruption of health services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of which is the availability of different platforms providing non-verified information which mislead the public resulting to misconceptions and wrong health practices," he said.

Taguinin also said that the unified call center center aims to provide quality, accessible, timely and people-centered response activities in relation to COVID-19 and other health programs and services.

He further said the center aims to provide quick response activities on health emergencies such as transport, outbreak investigation, logistics, and manpower augmentation, and to maximize critical care utilization through proper referral of patients to an appropriate health facility.

"The command call center will strengthen the linkages and networking with stakeholders through exchange of information and data. Also, this is an avenue for proper referral of patients for each of the case classifications for proper management," Taguinin said.

On his part, health Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay is optimistic that the ONLINE center will address the issue of referral system of COVID-19 cases, as well as facilitate immediate response of local government units, enable feedback mechanism from the public, and ensure proper channeling of public health concerns.

Bakit ba naeenganyo sila? Paniwalang paniwala sila. Basahin ang maikling kasagutan tungkol dito. It makes them feel special and different. It gives them a feeling of being better than others, of having their eyes opened to a 'truth' that others don't see. That's why some call non-believers 'sheeple.' I think it's similar to the feeling we get whenever we learn an obscure yet interesting piece of trivia. The thought of "No one else knows it!" I also think conspiracies appeal to the way humans think, especially now. A desire to search for patterns. There has to be reason and purpose for anything. But this is not right! I still blame the lack of the fundamental research skills that needs to be taught in school. I believe you get to have a full subject on your 4th year, but investigative skills and fact checking should be honed at a young age.
