Plastic barriers on PUJs not mandatory--DOTr

CALOOCAN CITY, Aug. 15 (PIA) -- The Department of Transportation on Friday clarified that it does not require the installation of plastic barriers for passengers inside public utility jeepneys (PUJ).

In a report by PTV News, the DOTr emphasized that it is only requiring the placement of barriers to separate the driver from the passengers.

The DOTr said plastic barriers may have been part of the PUJ drivers’ initiative to enforce physical distancing guidelines inside their vehicles, however, the agency is not prescribing it.

The transportation department is set to meet with commuter groups on the matter to determine whether it is needed or if it has to be removed in public transportation.

Meanwhile, the mandatory wearing of face shields in all means of public transportation has began today to help stem the spread of COVID-19.

However, public transportation remains prohibited in areas under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) such as in Metro Manila.

The MECQ is set to expire on Aug. 18, with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte set to announced classifications on Monday, Aug. 17. (PIA NCR)

Pagbati sa mga itinalagang board members ng Angat Buhay na magsisilbing gabay at haligi ng organisasyon! Magsisilbing Chairperson ng Angat Buhay NGO si Atty. Leni Robredo; habang tatayo namang bilang President si Philip Francisco Dy. Si Raphael Martin Magno naman ang tatayong Executive Director ng organisasyon. Kabilang sa mga members of the board sina: Atty. Jose Christopher Belmonte; Joanne Baylon; Judith Azarcon-Marquez; Garrie David; Max Ventura; Rafael Lopa; at Raphael Martin Magno (Ex-officio).
