Philippine Flora exhibit available online

PARAÑAQUE CITY, August 19 (PIA) -- The carefully curated illustrations of Philippine flora that highlight significant plants in Filipino society, culture, and history are now available for digital download.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in partnership with the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) is showcasing the collection of illustration compiled by Augustinian Priest and scientist Father Manuel Blanco for the month of August as a celebration of the National Language and History Month. 

“Flora De Filipinas,” dubbed online exhibit will be available until August 31, 2020. 

The book with the same name was first published in 1837 by Fr. Manuel Blanco. 

Through the help of the Biblioteca Nacional de España, the public may access hi-resolution rare historical sources free. Filipinos may download the five-volume opus of Fr. Blanco through this link: https://tinyurl.com/y5vf7nfg

The “Flora De Filipinas,” online exhibit features the drawings of Fray Mariano Fabregas, OSA; Fray Miguel Lucio, OFM; Agustin Saez, Ramon Santa Coloma, and Emma Vidal. 

As well as llustrations made by Filipino artists Cayetano Arguelles, Francisco Domingo, brothers Regino and Rosendo Garcia, Jose Lorenzo Guerrero, Isidro Llado, F. Pardo, Felix Martinez, R. L Salamanca, Miguel Zaragoza and Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. 

In an effort to bring awareness to one of the ancient scripts of the country, the indigenous names are written in Baybayin.  

The Flora de Filipinas series is an official activity of the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines which celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan, and the Philippine part in the historical first circumnavigation of the world. (PIA-NCR)

Board of Trustees and Members of Angat Pinas, Inc.

Pagbati sa mga itinalagang board members ng Angat Buhay na magsisilbing gabay at haligi ng organisasyon! Magsisilbing Chairperson ng Angat Buhay NGO si Atty. Leni Robredo; habang tatayo namang bilang President si Philip Francisco Dy. Si Raphael Martin Magno naman ang tatayong Executive Director ng organisasyon. Kabilang sa mga members of the board sina: Atty. Jose Christopher Belmonte; Joanne Baylon; Judith Azarcon-Marquez; Garrie David; Max Ventura; Rafael Lopa; at Raphael Martin Magno (Ex-officio). Tatayong Board Secretary si Atty Stella Pastores-Esquivas, at Board Treasurer naman si Camille Genuino.
