NTF commends Las Piñas LGU's whole-of-govt approach in the fight against COVID-19

QUEZON CITY, Aug. 11 (PIA) – Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary of Public Health Services Team Dr. Myrna Cabotaje commended Las Piñas for effectively employing the whole-of-government approach in the fight against COVID-19.

Cabotaje, along with the other members of the National Task Force for COVID-19 visited Las Piñas on August 6 to discuss existing programs and initiatives of the city government in response to COVID 19 and on how to strengthen the city’s response on the imposition of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

The Task Force’s visit was led by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar and representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Philippine National Police (PNP).

Mayor Imelda Aguilar, Vice Mayor April Aguilar-Nery and key local officials welcomed the NTF and shared the city’s 4K core priorities in response to COVID-19: Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kaayusan, at Kaalaman.

During the event, Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Eliezer Natividad presented the city’s COVID-19 situationer, particularly the Trace-Test-Isolate-Treat Management System, the city’s strategic approaches and accomplishments in response to COVID-19.

Natividad also reported establishment of the Task Force COVID 19 and 33 Contact Tracing Teams, and underscored the expansion of the City’s Local Isolation and General Treatment Areas for COVID 19 cases (LIGTAS COVID Center).

He shared that the City indorses COVID-19 patients to the newly identify quarantine facilities namely SOGO Hotel and Hotel 10/10 in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

The City of Las Pinas currently facilitates the operationalization of LIGTAS 2, establishment of the Biosafety Laboratory for COVID 19 Testing, and the completion of the city’s columbarium with crematorium, which are all intended to further improve the city’s response to COVID 19.

Cabotaje recommended the strengthening of the city’s contact tracing capacity to efficiently contain and decelerate the spread of the virus.

DPWH NCR Assistant Regional Director Juby B. Cordon shared the Agency’s existing efforts in constructing additional isolation facilities and offered help in facilitating construction of additional isolation centers in the city.

As of August 6, 2020, the city has a total of 1,250 cases composed of 899 (71.9%) recoveries, 65 (5.2%) deaths, and 286 (22.9%) are still being actively monitored by the City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU). (DILG/PIA-NCR)
