LAOAG CITY, Aug. 15 (PIA) -- On top of wearing face mask, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc reiterated to the Ilokanos in a virtual press briefing to put on face shield when in public areas, workplaces, and in taking any mode of public transportation beginning Saturday, August 15.
His call comes after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) issued a memorandum circular which mandates the wearing of face shields for all passengers in areas where public transportation is allowed.
Moreover, employees are now required to wear face shields in working areas starting Aug.15 as announced by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Belo III on Aug. 12.
Although face shields are required in Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) and workplaces, Governor Manotoc also encourages use of this protective equipment when in close proximity to other people.
“Our uniformed personnel are apprehending violators of our mask requirement. They are roaming around and they have been ordered to catch offenders. Sa face shield, we encourage you to wear pero kapag sa public utility vehicle, requirement talaga ito. Also, kapag close proximity, let’s wear face shields,” he reiterated.
Because of this new guideline, the governor seeks cooperation of face shields sellers to not take advantage of the current situation.
“Sana maging responsible and maging ethical sa pagbebenta. Let us not take this opportunity to take advantage of our kakailian. There’s a corresponding penalty for overpricing and I don’t think that is worth the risk, so I hope that you should all be responsible in selling,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) has set the Standard Retail Price of face shields from PhP26.00 to PhP50.00 each.
Also, the health department issued technical specifications of face shields that must be worn.
According to the DOH, it must be made of “clear plastic or acetate material, provide good visibility, fog resistant, adjustable band to attach firmly around the head, fit snuggly against the forehead, full face coverage (the side and length of the face), made of robust material that can be easily cleaned and disinfected, disposable or re-usable.”
At present, the provincial government continues to strictly implement preventive measures against COVID-19 such as wearing of face mask, physical distancing, and proper hand washing or hand sanitizing. (JCR/JPD/MJB, PIA Ilocos Norte)
