QUEZON CITY, August 12 (PIA) – With the increasing number of persons contracting COVID-19, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) works double time to increase the number of isolation and quarantine facilities.
In a Malacanang virtual presser Tuesday, DPWH Secretary and isolation czar, Mark A. Villar, reported an additional 210 ICU bed capacity for East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City, ready to accept patients by August 17 (Monday).
Pop-up hospitals will be built at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center and Quezon Institute in Quezon City with additional 110 beds to improve critical care utilization, he said.
“Sa ating mga quarantine facilities by the end of this month, we will be completing 300 facilities with a total of 12,200 bed capacities. For this month, meron po tayong ongoing na 95 facilities with almost 3,000 additional bed capacity,” Villar added.
With the help of private sector, Villar said a group led by businessman Ricky Razon will be building a medical tent at the Nayong Pilipino land in Paranaque City.
“Tuloy-tuloy po ang pagtatayo ng quarantine at isolation facilities,” he assured.
As the country reopens the economy, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the government is enhancing the testing capacity especially in areas with localized lockdown to immediately isolate them.
The Department of Health (DOH) together with the LGUs have also enhanced their contact tracing capacity with minimum 10 close contacts to undergo swab testing. (MTQ/PIA-IDPD)
