DOLE-10 launches webinar series on labor laws via program convergence

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Aug. 7 (PIA)--The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 in coordination with the Labor and Management Convergence (LMC) Team launched the new normal webinar series on labor laws, July 28 with scheduled topics posted on DOLE Facebook page: DOLE Northern Mindanao–Labor and Employment Education Services, which will end August 20.

The labor education series, initiated by DOLE-10 Regional Director Lawyer Joffrey M. Suyao, aims to provide an interactive platform that engages industry sectors and stakeholders in Northern Mindanao on labor relations with the theme, “COVID-19 in the Workplace: Combating Challenges, Discovering Opportunities.” 

Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board (RCMB)-10 Director Lawyer Ligaya R. Lumbay worked on the project in the interest of informing the public on current issuances on labor and employment concerns during COVID-19 pandemic.

Suyao said the activity enables DOLE to leverage information and communication technology-based platforms ensuring wider client reach as part of proactive strategy on labor education program advocacy under the COVID-19 post pandemic situation. 

Target participants include workers, employers, program partners from local and national government that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The maiden session on “The Latest DOLE Labor Advisory Issuances” covers Labor Advisory No. 09-Series of 2020 or the “Guidelines on the Implementation of Flexible Work Arrangements as Remedial Measure due to the Ongoing Outbreak of COVID-19; Labor Advisory No. 17-S. 2020 or the “Guidelines on Employment Preservation Upon the Resumption of Business Operation;” and Labor Advisory No. 18- S.2020 or the “Guidelines on the Cost of Covid-19 Prevention and Control Measures.” 

Such is aimed to apprise public-participants on recent issuances of the department that will guide labor and management sectors on handling current challenges besetting employment, economics and businesses.

Session topics also include workplace safety, building mental resiliency, improving workplace relationship, updates on Joint Interim Memorandum with DTI-DOLE on responses to Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) directives and vital industry sectors’ minimum health protocols as mandated by the government and the IATF.

Industries involved

The first session was attended by interested clients from the five provinces of the region. As disclosed by Suyao, the following are the top five participating industries: academe with 14.1 percent; hotels and restaurants with 13.8 percent; wholesale/retail with 11.4 percent, construction at 8.2 percent, manufacturing with 6.9percent and others at 15.6 percent. 

There were 377 online attendees recorded for the maiden activity with 3,700 Facebook live viewers, 124 shares, 130 reactions, 64 comments and 14,136 people reached by DOLE LEES FB page. 

Thus, Suyao affirmed that the turn-out of statistics positively manifests the interest of the partner-stakeholders in determining services that best cater to their respective needs.

The Labor Management Convergence Team was organized with the concept of furthering labor education to interested parties from labor, management and government sectors utilizing fresh labor advisories in the COVID-19 pandemic era that will enhance foo human relations among workers and management.

Webinar attendees per session are entitled to e-certificates of participation after accomplishing the feedback form while another e-certificate of completion will be given if all sessions were attended by the registrants.
