DAVAO CITY Aug. 17 (PIA)- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced the enhanced community quarantine or hard lockdown being implemented starting at 1:00 o’clock pm Monday in Barangay Tomas Monteverde Purok 8.
She revealed based on initial swab test, 65 persons turned out positive of COVID-19 infection in the area.
Duterte-Carpio said contamination is not remote to happen in Barangay Tomas Monteverde being in close proximity with Barangay Leon Garcia which was a subject of lockdown during the early days of the pandemic.
She said the focus of concern is just a small purok but she broadens the lockdown to a wider area to control the infection.
“As explained by City Health Officer Josephine Villafuerte, the area covers 417 persons,” Duterte-Carpio said.
She reminded those residing at Barangay Tomas Monteverde that under hard lockdown or enhanced community quarantine, nobody can go in or go out, except those who need to go to the hospital for dialysis and the like.
Duterte-Carpio noted that in terms of food, the City Social Service and Development Office will provide the grocery packs while the City Vet and the City Agriculture Office will support with fresh food and meat.
She also reminded employers to be considerate with employees under lockdown, provided, that everything is documented with reference to the address under lockdown or persons with no direct symptoms but close contact of a person who turned out to be COVID-19 positive. “They need a quarantine or isolation for 14 days,” Duterte-Carpio said.
She stressed hard lockdown must be avoided since it causes undue stress to people and communities and dangerous for contamination.
Duterte-Carpio said observing the four basic health protocols can really help in avoiding lockdowns like distancing, wearing of masks, washing of hands with soap and water and staying home. “These activities will reduce exposure and transmission.” (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
