Contact tracing up in Bindoy town for latest COVID-19 patient

Negros Oriental Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion announces six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection and six recoveries during the press conference held at the IATF Media Briefing Area, BOM Office, Perdices Coliseum, Dumaguete City on Aug. 14, 2020. (ral/PIA7-NegOr)

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug. 14 (PIA) -- Health workers and police officers in the municipality of Bindoy, Negros Oriental are now conducting contact tracing for individuals who had direct contact with a COVID-19 positive patient there.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion announced this in a press conference earlier today at the IATF Media Briefing Area, this city.

The COVID-19 patient is a 48-year old male with no travel history outside Negros Oriental.

Estacion reported the patient had Influenza-like Illness (ILI) after experiencing cough, fever and body malaise.

He is currently under home quarantine but Estacion said Bindoy Mayor Ike Amorganda is convincing him to seek medical treatment in the hospital due to his condition.

For the meantime, the local government unit has sent a team to monitor the situation at the patient’s residence including its neighbors.

Based on the timeline record of the patient which was forwarded to the Integrated Provincial Health Office, the patient was at his home on Aug. 2 and Aug. 3.

On Aug. 4, he went to a bank in Bais City, but was at home on Aug. 5 when his fever and cough started to manifest.

He travelled again to Bais City on Aug. 6 and went to the bank.

The patient stayed at home on Aug. 7 until Aug. 9 but experienced recurring fever.

He visited a physician at 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 10 and took a pedicab on his way home by 2:30 p.m.

Swab samples were taken from him on Aug. 11 and his RT PCR test result also came out on Aug. 13.

Health authorities are still determining where the patient may have acquired the virus.

Estacion, however, did not confirm if this can be considered as another incident of local transmission.

First, we must find out where did the patient was infected by the virus and then through contact tracing, we will know if he was able to spread the virus to his family members or to other people he encountered in those places he visited. Those are the factors we need to establish),” Estacion explained.

The new case in Bindoy is one of the six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection reported in the province today.

New cases were registered in Sibulan with three cases and one each from Sta. Catalina and Guihulngan City.

The three new cases in Sibulan were returning Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs), two of whom came from Parañaque City and one from Pampanga.

The new case in Sta. Catalina is also a  female LSI from Parañaque City, while the new case in Guihulngan City is also a female patient but it has yet to be confirmed if she had a travel history in Cebu as her arrival was not coordinated with the local government unit.

The City Government of Guihulngan is now looking into the incident but Estacion disclosed that the patient denied the allegations against her.

She is now staying at the LGU-designated quarantine facility.

On the other hand, the province also have six COVID-19 recoveries today, which include NegOr-Cov-104, the daughter of an 82-year old female from Brgy. Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City who died before the results of her swab test came out.

Other recoveries announced today are NegOr-Cov-96 (Dumaguete City), NegOr-Cov-105 (Tayasan), NegOr-Cov-82 (Mabinay), NegOr-Cov-99 (Amlan), and NegOr-Cov-93 (Canlaon City).

Results of their repeat swab tests also came out on Aug. 13.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Negros Oriental is now at 114 with 16 active cases, four mortalities, and 94 recoveries. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)

Why are Filipinos known for their lack of reading comprehension?

Because according to most of them: "Well-mannered is better than well-educated" That's why most of the Filipinos never progress. It is because of the trash mindset.
