BPO firms asked to follow health protocols

BACOLOD CITY, Aug. 14 (PIA) –- Some 13 representatives of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies based in Bacolod City met with local government officials to assess their compliance with the strict health protocols set by the government.

This, after cases of the coronavirus or COVID-19 have affected the employees of the industry in the city.

Bacolod City mayor Evelio Leonardia, who led the virtual meeting with the representatives of the BPO companies, urged them to be strict enough to see to it that health protocols are properly followed.

“Over the years, we know how valuable you are. We know how much you contributed to Bacolod as a whole. You have made a very great impact to our local economy. But while we used to focus on economics before, what is now primordial is the health and safety of those in the industry. We want you safe over anything else,” Leonardia told BPO representatives.

He also acknowledged that the BPO industry is the “crown jewel” of Bacolod City.  

A team from the local government unit will make random visits to BPO workplaces to make sure they properly follow health protocols and to make assessments on how to improve their working arrangements amid the ongoing health crisis.

According to a media release from the Bacolod City Public Information Office, almost all BPO firms in Bacolod with over 1,000 employees have already adopted 50 to 80 percent work-from-home arrangements.

However, a few small companies with only 80-90 employees were allowed to observe one-seat-apart workplace setup.

These companies reported that they have been conducting regular enhanced onsite disinfection since community quarantines started with physicians and nurses assigned on rotation on site. *(LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)

Pagbati sa mga itinalagang board members ng Angat Buhay na magsisilbing gabay at haligi ng organisasyon! Magsisilbing Chairperson ng Angat Buhay NGO si Atty. Leni Robredo; habang tatayo namang bilang President si Philip Francisco Dy. Si Raphael Martin Magno naman ang tatayong Executive Director ng organisasyon.
