NEGROS ORIENTAL, Aug. 18 (PIA) -- During the Inter-Agency Task meeting held recently, Dr. Liland Estacion, assistant provincial health officer, reported that 90 percent of the total local government units (LGUs) in the province have already reported COVID-19 positive cases, majority of whom are Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) and ROFs (Returning Overseas Filipinos).
Only 10 percent of the LGUs here remain to be zero or have no COVID-19 positive case which include the municipalities of Valencia, San Jose, and Pamplona.
Estacion also presented that the province has 13 active cases of COVID-19 as of Aug. 17 with one each from Sta. Catalina, Siaton, Zamboanguita, Dumaguete City, Bindoy, Guihulngan City, five from Sibulan, and two from Canlaon City.
The health officer said her office received a total of 94 new RT-PCR results, all of which are negative with three recoveries.
From the start of the pandemic, the province has already recorded four mortalities, 97 recoveries, and 13 active positive cases.
The deaths came from Dumaguete City (2) and one each from the municipalities of Tayasan and Jimalalud.
“As what we have already declared in public, we already have local transmission in Negros Oriental, one in Dumaguete City and one now in Bindoy town,” said Estacion.
The patient in Bindoy is a 48 year-old male taekwondo instructor who experienced influenza like illness (ILI) or has signs of cough, fever and body malaise with no travel history outside the province.
“He was swabbed on Aug. 11 and the positive result came out Aug. 15. The problem is during the contact tracing, we found out that the whole family had LBM, so we (went) backward sa pag contact trace and as of last night, there are already 100 people due for swabbing because there were people who were included in the contact tracing,” explained Estacion.
The local health team have been doing contact tracing and calling on the friends of the patient who had direct contact with him to approach their nearest facility for assessment. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
