ILOILO CITY, July 28 (PIA) -- Police Regional Office 6 ensured and sustained a peaceful security coverage in Western Visayas of this year’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
The regionwide security coverage of SONA 2020, July 27, was ensured with strict implementation of standard health protocols, noted PRO 6 Public Information Officer Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Gorero in a media release.
The activation of Task Group SONA 2020 resulted in a peaceful and meaningful security event.
“All activities were closely monitored by the PRO6 Regional Tactical Operation Center to ensure that no unscrupulous individuals or groups will create chaos,” he added.
Some local government units have issued permit to conduct protests or rallies, hence, the police have strictly monitored compliance to the strict observance of physical distancing and mandatory wearing of facemask in accordance with Modified General Community Quarantine guidelines set by Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
According to Gorero, there were only minimal assemblies, caravans and rallies held in the provinces and cities in Western Visayas during this year's SONA.
He added that the rallies were also participated in by small groups in some areas of Kalibo in Aklan, Roxas City in Capiz, Kabankalan in Negros Occidental, Bacolod City and Iloilo City, and peacefully dispersed without any confrontation.
“Early dialogue initiated by the commanders with the organizers aided the orderly protest rally, Gorero said, adding that there was no arrests made against protesters as they observed the “new normal” guidelines.
Meanwhile, PRO 6 Regional Director Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan thanked everyone for the cooperation and understanding amidst the pandemic for heeding the call of the PNP to avoid mass gatherings as a measure against the virulent COVID-19. (JBG-PIA6/RPIO-PRO6)
