QUEZON CITY, July 15 (PIA) -- A documentary on the Filipino diaspora in the United Kingdom is about to premier at a UK film fest, the Philippine Embassy based in London announced.
Mona Bakht, a young London-based filmmaker of Filipino lineage, joins the “No Room Left in the Margins” film festival, a screening of short films by British artists from the Asian diaspora, which commences on Thursday, 23 July.
Bakht’s “Talaga” documentary is one of the festival’s 10 films by British Asian filmmakers exploring the diversity of Asian identities in different cultures.
Bakht recently graduated from Central Saint Martins where she studied Fashion Communication and Promotion, the Bomb Factory Art Foundation website said.
“Her practice focuses primarily around filmmaking and photography, with a lo-fi style reminiscent of the 80's and raw documentation of cultures and communities. From moving image to editorial shoots, Mona is able to show the world her multidisciplinary style in the form of storytelling,” it further read.
Presented by Bomb Art Factory Foundation and Baesianz, the screening also challenges limited ideas of Asian identities that exist within varied cultures.
