PALO, Leyte, July 4 (PIA) - The Department of Education (DepEd) has extended the enrollment period for public and elementary schools until July 15. This is to accommodate students who were not able to enroll via online enrolment.
Leyte DepEd Division Superintendent Manuel AlbaΓ±o, during the Province of Leyte Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 meeting said enrollment period was supposed to have ended on June 30.
From July 1-15, enrolment will be done with the help of the barangays. Enrolment forms will be delivered to the barangays and the barangay officials will deliver the forms to the students, Dr. AlbaΓ±o said.
Citing the latest data, the DepEd Leyte head said that of the total 383,628 enrollees for elementary and high school last year, only 223,796 are currently enrolled as of June 15, 2020.
For Elementary, only 122,045 have enrolled compared to that of last year’s 219,787.
Meanwhile, for High School level, only 101,751 have enrolled compared to last year’s 163,841 enrollees.
The threat of Covid-19 prompted the DepEd to shift to distance learning, where students do not have to go to school to avoid getting the virus.
The Education department has proposed blended learning, like online and modular learning, and tapping radio and television networks to ensure the delivery of lessons for the coming school year that begins on Aug. 24.
Face-to-face classes will not be held until a COVID-19 vaccine is available. (PIA-8)
