Angat Bayanihan Meeting Registration

Napakaraming p

DavNor DepEd ready for ‘new normal’, confirms class opening in August

DAVAO DEL NORTE, July 24 (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) in the province has confirmed the opening of classes in August and that new learning modalities have been prepared for the new normal.

This was revealed by Dr. Josephine Fadul, Schools Division Superintendent DepEd Tagum City Division and Dr. Dee. D. Silva, Schools Division Superintendent DepEd Davao del Norte Division during Kapihan sa DavNor on July 22.

“Big yes gyud na dayun gyud na despite everything dayun gyud na siya (That’s a big yes, [the opening of classes] will definitely pull through despite of everything),” Dr. Fadul affirmed when asked if whether classes will truly open in August.

The Department of Education (DepEd) on May 5, said that school year 2020-2021 will open on August 24 of this year ending on April 30, 2021

Parents were against enrolling their students at first due to doubts of what classes will be like without face-to-face, but later changed their stance after being made understood of the alternatives.

Nakasabot ra pud sila (At first they didn’t want modular, they really wanted face-to-face, but I explained to them…what’s better, letting the kids waste the entire year playing or give them modular? Then they understood),” Dr. Silva said.

The modular learning alternative is for those who don’t have internet access or gadgets.

With modular, the lessons, worksheets, and answer keys are printed in paper and, with the help of the LGUs, are distributed to the students to study at home.

In regard to how effective modular method is, Dr. Silva cited her experience and success about utilizing it before.

They can’t say that it’s not effective because we’ve tried this before when we had to do modular to students from the far-flung areas…it was only in the beginning that they would cheat the answers but they later on realized [that cheating won’t help]. It is effective),” Silva said.

In addition, there is also an option for online classes for those who have internet at home.

Likewise, for those who have gadgets and computers but have no internet access, they may opt for offline classes with the use of a USB flash drive to transfer the learning files.

As well, radios and TVs will soon be used as a learning modality.

“And then we have the fourth and the fifth [learning modality], using radio and TV, which eventually we will be forging a Memorandum of Agreement on that,” Dr. Fadul listed.

Fadul also added that teachers will be assigned a modality that best suit them, such as millennial teachers handling the online classes, and others better suited for radio handling the radio modality, etc. in order to avoid overloading the teachers with all the different types of learning modality.

Accordingly, Dr. Fadul said a new way of assessment will also be implemented to accurately assess the learning of the students.

As such, the rating of students will no longer use a quantitative method so that students will not be competing with others but themselves.

Fadul further hoped that this new way of learning will help students practice their honesty as they go at their own pace. (Jan Vincent Leuterio, PIA-XI)

Bakit ba naeenganyo sila? Paniwalang paniwala sila. Basahin ang maikling kasagutan tungkol dito. It makes them feel special and different. It gives them a feeling of being better than others, of having their eyes opened to a 'truth' that others don't see. That's why some call non-believers 'sheeple.' I think it's similar to the feeling we get whenever we learn an obscure yet interesting piece of trivia. The thought of "No one else knows it!" I also think conspiracies appeal to the way humans think, especially now. A desire to search for patterns. There has to be reason and purpose for anything. But this is not right! I still blame the lack of the fundamental research skills that needs to be taught in school. I believe you get to have a full subject on your 4th year, but investigative skills and fact checking should be honed at a young age.
