CALOOCAN CITY, June 11 (PIA) -- The Valenzuela City Government on Wednesday distributed 3,000 food packs to supply some 3,000 public utility jeepney drivers and operators in the city affected by the COVID-19 general community quarantine (GCQ).
“This week cityhall issued another set of food packs for the families of our jeep operators and drivers,” Mayor Rex Gatchalian said in a Twitter post.
As the city and the rest of Metro Manila are still under GCQ, government has yet to give green light for metro wide jeepney services to resume.
The local government says it is working with local associations to help them transition into the so-called new normal.
“Muling mamamahagi ng food packs ang pamahalaang lungsod para sa mga JODA drivers na hindi pa rin nakakabyahe mula nang magsimula ang community quarantine sa Metro Manila,” it said.
“Bawat miyembro ng JODA ay makakatanggap ng food pack,” it added.
To recall the city also earlier offered subsidies and assistance for operators and drivers who want to modernize their jeepneys. (PIA NCR)
