As of June 11, Chan said 32,326 beneficiaries have already been served which is equivalent to 20 percent of the total target.
Meanwhile, Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo, DSWD FO1 regional director, said all the 125 LGUs of the llocos Region are expediting the efficient payout to the beneficiaries who are considered vulnerable sector especially during this community quarantine brought about the coronavirus pandemic.
“The LGUs are working double time and accelerating their efforts to distribute the cash assistance while observing stringent safety protocols,” the regional director said.
He added, “We all know that these beneficiaries belong to poor families, and they have been greatly affected by the pandemic leading to lack of economic opportunities to gain income to support these indigent senior citizens.”
Social Pension of the DSWD is a program under Republic Act No. 9994 or the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010” which provides monthly stipend amounting to Php500 to indigent senior citizens to augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs. (JCR/JND, PIA La Union)
