CABARROGUIS, Quirino, June 9 (PIA)—The provincial government is inviting all Quirinian families who are garden enthusiasts to join the Search for Best Backyard Garden
The contest was launched On June 3, 2020 during the 75th birthday celebration of Congressman Junie E. Cua and will end on September 5, 2020 during the opening of the Quirino Day celebration.
The family garden is at least 200 square meters and at most 300 square meters. The use of vertical gardens to maximize space will be considered in computing the area of the garden.
The garden should have at least five kinds of vegetables and three kinds of fruits and it should produce enough harvest to support the nutrition needs of the family and generate additional income for the family.
The activities and results of the family garden should be documented in terms of number of household members involved in the gardening activities and number of family members provided nourishment by the garden and sales of produce from the garden.
Photos and records of sales will be accepted as supporting documents.
The criteria for judging are: Creativity and Garden Design - 15%; Variety of Plants Grown - 15%; Use of Organic Farming Technology - 15%; Record keeping - 10%; Income Generated - 15%; Family Involvement - 10% and People's Choice - 20%
Seventeen winners from the six towns broken down as follows: Diffun – 3; Cabarroguis – 3; Saguday – 2; Aglipay – 3; Maddela - 3 and Nagtipunan - 3 will be for posted in the Quirino Province Facebook page to earn public reactions as the basis for the People's Choice award criteria.
The winners will receive the following: First Prize - P7,500.00; Second Prize - P5,000.00; Third Prize - P2,500.00 and People's Choice - P2,500.00.
The consolation prizes for the 17 municipal winners are seeds and gardening tools. Certificates of recognition will also be awarded to them.
All contest participants will be entitled to a raffle ticket for a 10,000.00 pesos cash prize and other items in kind.
To officially join, interested participants are advised to send private message with the information of his/her name, contact number, residential address and farm/garden address (if not in the backyard).
Each participant is also advised to attach a picture of the garden/farm/plot of the land that is used as entry for the competition or she/he can go to the Municipal Nutrition Office in his or her area. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
