Returning S. Leyte LSIs ushered to quarantine units, undergo rapid tests

MAASIN CITY, June 9 (PIA) -- The port area of this city was transformed into a beehive of activity past midnight Tuesday as locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Cebu City, mostly students and workers, arrived, a moment long cherished and anticipated.

As agreed, the LSIs will be subjected to rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) upon reaching their destination, so that those found reactive will have swab samples taken, otherwise they will be led to quarantine facilities of their respective local government units (LGUs), there to undergo a 14-day isolation period. 

Their arrival, a first in an expected series, culminated over two months of intense coordination between LGUs and inter-agency task forces, in order to see to it that health protocols for travelers are followed faithfully during this time of a global pandemic.

Processing of disembarking passengers proceeded like clockwork, as health personnel in full personal protective suits did the profiling and disinfection, while police cars and other LGU vehicles waited in line to fetch their compatriots.

Overall, a total of 212 passengers were on board the Cokaliong ship, 41 of them Maasinhons and they will be quarantined, 30 of them at Red Cross’ COVID camp in Danao Forest Park, the rest at the city nursery in Brgy. Rizal.

The others are coming from the following places:  Silago - 8;  Hinunangan - 8;  Hinundayan - 11;  Anahawan - 7;  San Juan - 19;  Saint Bernard - 4;   Pintuyan - 3;   San Francisco - 1;  Liloan - 20;  Libagon - 9;   Sogod - 25;  Bontoc - 11;  Tomas Oppus - 15;  Malitbog - 1;   Padre Burgos - 9;   Macrohon - 15;  and Limasawa - 2.

No one from San Ricardo came, but 3 are going to Ormoc City.

By mid-morning on Tuesday, Dahlia Orit of Radio Pilipinas quoted City Mayor Nacional Mercado as saying all the 41 returnees of the city were non-reactive to the rapid tests.

Rapid tests from other municipalities are still being conducted as of this writing, using the kits bought by the provincial government which was just distributed to the various rural health units, a timely move with the coming of the LSIs.  (ldl/mmp/PIA 8-Southern Leyte)
