DAVAO CITY, June 15 (PIA) – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA XI) is dedicated to continually assisting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who wish to return to their home country.
OWWA XI Regional Director Ron Lionel Bartolome discussed the continued support that they provide to OFWs especially during the time of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the form of providing travel assistance to ROFs who wish to return to Davao Region.
“OWWA started sending sweeper flights last May 15 … and once the ROFs have arrived at the Davao City International Airport the Davao City LGU tests for COVID-19 and for those returning individuals who will return to areas outside Davao City we contact their respective LGUs so they may be tested and picked up,” Bartolome said.
Due to the travel restrictions and limited movement of vehicles, OWWA XI discussed how they provided ROFs who are waiting to be fetched by their respective LGUs temporary accommodations. A total of 2,104 Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs) have already been assisted by OWWA XI alone.
“There are cases where ROFs cannot be picked up by their respective LGUs immediately so OWWA XI provides food and lodging for them until they are fetched by their LGU,” Bartolome said.
There is also seaport assistance provided to returning OFWs where OWWA XI coordinates with ROFs to fetch them at seaports in Mindanao and to ensure that the said returning individuals will undergo proper health safety protocols.
“We also have seaport assistance at the Cagayan De Oro port and Davao City’s Sta. Ana port…we also follow a protocol for returning Davao Region residents where they will be tested and if they are negative for COVID-19 they will be referred to their respective Barangays,” Bartolome said.
