BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, June 15 (PIA) - Governor Carlos Padilla here has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) - Highway Patrol Group to arrest and put into custody truck drivers and their helpers carrying Locally-Stranded Individuals (LSIs) while plying the national highway in the province.
Padilla also told the PNP-HPG here headed by Police Captain Michael Bongtayon to impound trucks used for ferrying LSIs for violating the "Bayanihan to Heal as One" law, among others.
"The PNP-HPG should also establish a checkpoint in our province to check on the compartments and cargoes of trucks to ensure that no undocumented LSIs will slip through our province's vital checkpoints, " he added.

These LSIs make their way through the province's COVID-19 checkpoints walking in other routes and boarding other trucks on the way.
Padilla made the order during today's meeting of the Provincial COVID-19 Task Force at the Pasalubong Center in this town due to the province's role as the gateway to the Cagayan Valley region.
He made the move in response to a report from the agricultural sector requesting the strict spotchecking of trucks plying the national highway in Nueva Vizcaya.
Bongtayon, the PNP-HPG provincial officer confimed the report, saying trucks have been ferrying undocumented LSIs as their backload for extra income.
"This unscrupulous act has been practriced by truck drivers to earn extra income from the payment of LSIs," he said.
Bongtayon also bared that they were able to arrest previous violators of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aside from the arrest, truck drivers, helpers and caught LSIs will also be quarantined in the province for a required period while facing legal cases in court.
Last week, provincial officials looking on the incident in May 25 where several undocumented LSIs were allowed entry by the police at a checkpoint in Sta. Fe town for humanitarian reasons.
The board members reminded the PNP to be strict in preventing undocumented LSIs to enter the province as it will endanger a greater number of the province's population. (MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
