CALOOCAN CITY, June 16 (PIA) --In a bid to provide temporary accommodations for the returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and seafarers, who will be undertaking their mandatory quarantine, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) opened a COVID-19 Treatment Facility at the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal in Pier 15, and commissioned two (2) 2GO passengers vessels to serve as quarantine ships.
The DOTr shared the current status of the said quarantine facilities, as of yesterday, June 15, 2020.
For the COVID-19 Treatment Facility at the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal, a total of 35 individuals are taking their mandatory quarantine.
Meanwhile, the two (2) 2GO quarantine ships, the MV St. John Paul II and MV St. Anthony De Padua, have already been demobilized since 31 May 2020 and all repatriates from the two said quarantine ships have been transferred to the Eva Macapagal Terminal.
The DOTr said that as of yesterday, there are no confirmed positive COVID-19 case in the quarantine facilities and the 35 Filipinos remain healthy and show no sign or symptom of the virus.
A total of 354 individuals have completed their mandatory quarantine period, have tested negative based on their RT-PCR Test result, and have been sent home to their localities through transport arrangements jointly organized by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), licensed manning agencies (LMAs), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and the DOTr.
The assistance provided for the repatriates forms part of the COVID-19 response efforts of the DOTr, the PPA, PCG, and MARINA, in cooperation with the Lopez Group of Companies which donated P100 million funding support for the establishment of the COVID-19 treatment facility, 2GO, and Asian Terminals Inc.
