TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, June 13 (PIA) - - - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) region 2 has urged Local Government Units (LGUs) to adapt the "Tanod COVID" project for easy tracing of symptomatic patients in the community.
John Michael Taguiam of DOST region 2 said the project is a combination of a technology application and system in which any individual who may feel any of the symptoms of COVID-19 can easily seek assistance from the government. The project is in partnership with telecommunication companies.
He said the LGUs need to register a dedicated number to where a client may send his or her address and the symptoms he or she is experiencing for immediate action.
As of press time, only LGU Batanes and Tuguegarao City have already registered in the system.
"We encourage other LGUs to adapt this one because it will help them in determining the whereabouts of suspected COVID-19 patients. In this way, we can determine immediately if these people are positive of the virus or not," Taguiam said.
He emphasized that early detection of infection will also minimize further spread of the virus.
"They will just text REG_ their exact adddress_ number of household members, then send to the number given by the LGU, then there will be instructions to follow in the reply," Taguiam said.
For Tuguegarao City, the number for Globe/TM subcribers is 2158-6248 while 22565-6247 for subscribers of other networks. For Batanes, for Globe/TM subcribers is 2158-9445 and 22565-9445 for users of other networks. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
