DAVAO DEL NORTE, June 9 (PIA) – The provincial government of Davao del Norte is developing an electronic COVID19 tracking system through the use of quick response (QR) codes for tracing of persons who come in contact with a COVID-19 positive.
In a special edition of Kapihan sa DavNor this morning, Provincial COVID19 Inter-Agency Task Force Incident Commander, Dr. Alfredo Lacerona was optimistic that distribution gets completed this week.
He said that if everyone possesses a QR code, their QR code would be scanned each time they enter an establishment regardless of whether private or government. This would then keep record of the person’s entry in the establishment.
“In kaso simbako nga na infect ko gahapon, unya makitan nga mag positibo ko sunod semana, mahibal an na nga karong orasa, karong adlawa ning sulod ko diri sa opisina,” (In case, God forbid I would get infected yesterday and I will be confirmed positive next week, They will know what time I reported to the office) Dr. Lacerona explained.
He added that this will bring efficiency when contact tracing those who might have a direct contact of a person that comes out positive of COVID19.
“Ug tanan pung tao nga ning sulod diri karon, mao pud nga ma trace dayun nga ikaw pud diay ning anhi pud diay karon orasa ug karon adlawa…obserbahan naka ug maapil naka sa mga PUM,”(All people who went here now, we can immediately determine what time, what day they reported, they will be observed and will be included in the PUM). he said.
Lacerona was looking forward for the IATF to take a quick response towards preventing transmission as contacts of a COVID positive would then be identified and be advised for quarantine.
As much as Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib would like the QR Codes to be distributed widely to Davao del Norte residents and entrants to the province, Dr. Lacerona cited reasons for delay.
He said the QR codes are printed using a special type of paper that will be more resistant to water than regular paper and the provincial IATF is linking with as many printing establishments who have supply of such paper and with capability to print the QR Code.
He added that in the near future, there will be three ways to acquire the QR codes.
First, checkpoints will give the QR codes. Travelers may present their ID at checkpoint so that their identity and contact information are recorded. This way, if they are found to have been exposed of the virus, IATF members will contact them through call instead of personally going to their house.
Second, the barangay will give the QR codes to its residents.
Third, people may apply for the QR codes online through an application which is currently being fully developed.
So far, QR codes have been distributed to travelers passing through the Panabo boundary. (Jan Vincent Leuterio/PIA-XI)
