DAR chief distributes agri mechanisms to Pangasinan farmers

ASINGAN, Pangasinan, June 13 (PIA) - Farming communities in Pangasinan received a big boost after the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) distributed P1.3-million worth of  various agricultural productivity assistance.

DAR Secretary John Castriciones personally turned-over seeds and fertilizers, water pumps for irrigation and livelihood packages for Pangasinan farmers cooperatives and agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) during his visit to Asingan town on June 10.

Castriciones said the month of June is usually scheduled by the Department to commemorate the June 10, 1988 signing of  the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law (CARL), which is the basis for the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

“Instead of celebrating its 32nd year, we chose to help farmers survive the ill effects of the pandemic in their economic lives by providing them with the much needed assistance in crop production,” Castriciones said during the short program at the municipal gym.

He said the activity is being implemented under the project called “The PaSSOver: ARBOld Move to Heal as One Deliverance of ARBs from the COVID-19 Pandemic” or ARBOld Move project.

"These provisions are highly significant in achieving food security in the country. These [productivity assistance] would greatly help the farmers in fulfilling their role as frontliners by continually producing and delivering food crops in critical areas affected by the pandemic," Castriciones said.

Undersecretary Emily Padilla, who was also present in the ceremony, said  60 ARBs from Umingan and 16 ARBs from Asingan received fertilizers and vegetable seedlings which will be planted to a 500 sq. m. lot per ARB.

"Irrigation issues will not be a problem anymore as two irrigators' association in San Quintin and Umingan also received two water pumps each," she said.

During the event, Castriciones also distributed certificates of land ownership award (CLOAs) to 94 ARBs covering 63 hectares of agricultural lands in Asingan and San Quintin.

In a separate interview, DAR Pangasinan Agrarian Reform Chief Anna Francisco said more than 3,000 farmers and residents in Pangasinan will benefit from these assistance, of which 976 are ARBs.

“Ang mga beneficiaries natin ay makakatanggap kasama rin ang mga miyembro ng levels 1, 2 and 3 na tinatawag nating developing cooperatives. Kaya kapag miyembro ng agrarian cooperatives, maraming opportunities ang dumarating,” Francisco said.

Meanwhile, Asingan Mayor Carlos Lopez, Jr. was thankful to  DAR for the productivity assistance extended to their farmers and for the help it has provided to the town’s Bantog Samahang Nayon, the farmers' group known for its quality carabao’s milk.  (JCR/AMB/VHS/PIAPangasinan)

How To Make A Country Worship You

Why are Filipinos known for their lack of reading comprehension?

Because according to most of them: "Well-mannered is better than well-educated" That's why most of the Filipinos never progress. It is because of the trash mindset.
