BOKOD, Benguet, June 12(PIA) - - Children and breastfeeding mothers are among the priorities of the local government here during this prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
The local government distributed food packages tagged as “Nutritious Pack” to children aged 1-2 including underweight or stunted children and lactating mothers who are among the vulnerable sectors.
The initiative is part of the Bayanihan Heal As One Act program of the LGU giving attention to those whose health and nutrition may be disrupted due to limited access to basic goods and services during emergency situations. This is under the so called nutrition in emergency situations scheme to protect and promote the vulnerable sectors.
“During this pandemic, our children and their mothers are also at risk. Thus, with the help of our Municipal Action Officer (MNAO) together with the members of the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) we budgeted Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (P500,000.00) to purchase the Nutritious Pack for our children and for the breastfeeding mothers in our municipality,”Bokod Mayor Thomas K. Wales Jr posted in his facebook.
“I do believe that if we have children with good nutrition, we will have a healthier and wealthier community because they are our future. Therefore, we must invest in them and in their nutrition,” he added.

Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Aurelia Wales said the nutri packs were distributed to 760 recipients in the 10 barangays of the municipality by the Municipal Nutrition Council led by the mayor as its chair.
A pack contained two 250 grams star margarine, one 800 grams oatmeal, one 700 grams powdered milk, 500 grams mongo, 150 grams dilis dried fish, one pack biscuit.
The local government also distributed 25 kilograms of rice to those who were not able to receive assistance from the social amelioration program or are not included as 4Ps recipients.
Every household were earlier given free half cavan rice including tilapia and “afag” or raw meat. (JDP/SCA-PIA CAR, Benguet)
